Sharon Read - President/CEO - has been on the Board since she joined Excel as President and CEO in 2001. A third generation southern Albertan Sharon has extensive experience working in the health and social service sectors. Known for her "We can get there!" attitude, she has two adult sons and skis year round on both water and snow. She has been very active at encouraging staff involvement in strategic planning and program development.

Scott Kashuba - Chair - is currently the Senior Manager of the Board Governance Secretariat with the Alberta Government's Executive Council. Prior to joining the Government of Alberta, Scott worked as a Principal at a management consulting firm, leading their public sector practice, and earlier in his career, spent over 16 years as a Senior Forensic Scientist with the RCMP. In addition to serving as the Chair of the Excel Board, Scott is also the Chair of the Government of Alberta Management Employee Pension Board, the Chair of the MacEwan College Alumni Board, and a shareholder member of the Northlands Board Facilities, Planning and Development Committee.

Brad Perkins - Vice Chair - is a native Edmontonian and a proud Oilers and Esks fan. He is a graduate of the University of Alberta and a Certified Management Accountant. Since 1998 he has been working in the tax group of KPMG's Edmonton Office. Brad also acts as the Treasurer on the Board of Directors of the Edmonton Downtown Business Association.

Sharon Sutherby - Past Chair - has dedicated several years of her life to supporting Excel Society through participation as Vice Chair in 2003 and Chair in 2006. Sharon is the Manager of Nutrition and Food Services at the Miscercordia Hospital in Edmonton and brings knowledge in the areas of management and nutritional services. As a parent of a disabled son, Sharon brings sensitivity only a parent can bring, and believes Excel has a vision that is consistent with her own.

Garry Rentz - Secretary Treasurer - Garry joined Excel in 2002. He is a native of Edmonton and is self-employed. His interest in private schools and adult education, as well as experience in the field of disabilities has brought depth to the organization. "I chose to serve based on my history in the field and I see rapid growth in the field of specialized care." Gary is married and has four children.

Jack McKenzie - Director, CA - is retired from Deloitte & Touche, where he was a partner. Born in Saskatoon, he is married with four daughters and 11 grandchildren. Jack joined our Board in 1984 with a strong sense of community, wanting to help the disadvantaged. He sees an expanded role in residential care in Excel's future.

Catherine Bergamo - Director - RPA is a Property Manager with Melcor Developments Ltd. Born and raised in Vancouver, has worked in accounting for Bental Capital Ltd. and Morguard Investments Ltd. for a total of ten years of industry related experience. Catherine and her daughter are enjoying all that Edmonton has to offer, and she hopes to be able to give back to the community through Excel with the knowledge that she's acquired.

Mary Marshall - Director - brings a vast background of experience to the Board as a Barrister and Solicitor in private practice. Mary acquired a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Toronto, and a Master of Laws from the University of Cambridge. She is a legal and policy consultant to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Government of Ontario, and has international experience supporting the role of the Ombudsman. Mary's areas of interest and expertise include health law and policy, and mental health law. Mary is married with twin teens - a boy and a girl.

Susan Janzen - Director - is a licensed Realtor with Realty Executives. She was a professional singer for eighteen years, and then received her Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Alberta. She taught as a Special Education teacher for Edmonton Public Schools for six years and has a passion for both children and adults with special needs. She is married to Dr. Henry Janzen and together they have six children and four grandchildren. Their oldest son is Schizophrenic and Susan has always been an advocate for better living and working conditions for the mentally disabled. She is an active member of the community and still finds time to sing at Seniors Homes and Hospitals in her spare time.

Kaye Langager - Director - was born in Edmonton and joined the Excel Board in 2004. Kaye was involved with Excel for approximately 12 years. During that time Kaye has marvelled at the tremendous growth of the Organization and the incredible service they are currently proving to their clientele.

Dr. Albert Cook - Director - has recently retired as Dean of the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine and Chair of the Health Sciences Council at the University of Alberta. Dr. Cook has worked with interdisciplinary teams to develop assistive devices and to assess the effectiveness of technology being used by persons with disabilities. Dr. Cook is also associated with the Assistive Device Service at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. He was formerly Professor of Biomedical Engineering at California State University, Sacramento where he established the graduate program in biomedical engineering and directed it for 12 years. He also served as Co-Director of the Assistive Device Center, helping over 500 persons with disabilities to identify and obtain assistive technologies.
