We help people with mental, physical and developmental disabilities

Child / Youth

The care system defines children as people under the age of 18.  Intake and the development of care plans begin with a “Needs Assessment” and referral from Child and Family Service, Edmonton Region. Excel also accepts children from the Northwest Territories (out of territory placement).

Children/Youth in Residence

Excel provides support and guidance to children, some with developmental disabilities and or complex needs; for instance, challenging behaviours, significant medical needs, etc.

Residences provide support 24 hours a day as required for children.  Child and family services also provides outreach support through the school system.

Children receive support based on their unique needs such as:

  • Learning functional communication skills
  • Learning life skills
  • Support in addressing behavioural issues
  • Enhancing reading and writing skills

At 18 years of age children and youth will need to transition into Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) funded programs.
