
The Excel Academy
The Excel Academy was founded to respond to the growing need for qualified and professional staff needed to support persons with physical and mental disabilities. The Academy offers a 17 week Community Support Worker Certificate Program, and the Government of Alberta Health Care Aide Certificate Program. A "Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition" (PLAR) is available.
In addition the Academy offers a professional development calendar with a vast array of courses available to staff in agencies focused on the human services industry. These programs for care givers provide highly qualified training in a variety of courses such as Standard First Aid and CPR, Strategies for Behaviour Management, Suicide Intervention, Team Building, WHMIS, Abuse Prevention, Crisis Prevention, Lifting and Transferring, Body Mechanics, and Positioning, Medication Administration, Food Safety, Nutritional Aide.
Academy programs also offer hands-on, practical training through role reversal scenarios, role playing, and practicum. The Excel Academy, a private vocational school licensed under the Private Vocational Schools Act of Alberta and a member of the Alberta Association of Career Colleges has a graduate employment rate greater than 95% within the first 3 months of the program completion.
