Board of Directors

Brad Perkins – President/CEO
Brad has been on the Board as President/ CEO since March 1, 2016.  Brad was born and raised in Edmonton and graduated from the University of Alberta. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, and former partner with KPMG, one of the world’s largest business services firms.  Brad served on the Excel Society Board of Directors for 12 years including roles as Chair, Chair of the Building Committee, and Chair of the Audit Committee.

Colleen Scott

Colleen Scott – Board Chair
Colleen grew up in Grassland Alberta, joining the company that is now TELUS Communications after graduation. Now a Customer Implementation Manager she works directly with clients providing voice/data solutions. She is an active participant in the TELUS “Give Where We Live” campaigns and has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, The Edmonton Humane Society and the Valley Zoo.Colleen lives in Edmonton with her husband of 27 years and is an animal lover with a dog and two cats.

Michael Walesiak – Vice Chair
Michael has a chartered accountant designation and a Bachelor of Commerce with distinction from the University of Alberta.   He has worked with the U of A Research Services Office (RSO) as Associate Director – Finance and Information; Assistant Director Finance, RSO; Finance Manager RSO.  In addition he was Senior Manager, Deloitte, Manager KPMG, and an auditor with the office of the Auditor General of Alberta.  A warm welcome to Michael.

Tammy Browning – Director
Tamara is a director with her husband of St. Gregory’s Landscaping Inc. She is responsible for the accounting, technology and administration.  After college, she worked at Great West Life, Wusyk Financial and Manulife financial with new business and client administration.   She is a mother of three. The oldest was born with a rare syndrome, 4p minus, resulting in global developmental delay.  Tamara is the funds administrator for his program through PDD.   This includes, advocating for funding, hiring his aides, planning his daily program along with managing all aspects of his funding.

Cathy Chouinard – Director
Cathy is very excited to be considered for a position on the Excel Society Board of Directors. She wishes to contribute to an organization that helps adults with disabilities, particularly developmental disabilities as this issue resonates with her.
She has been with Alberta Benefits, a large insurance brokerage that specializes in Group Benefit Solutions since 2008 in various roles. She currently holds a dual role of VP of Business Development for both Alberta Benefits and its sister company, Canadian Benefit Providers.
Before moving to Alberta in the summer of 2008, her and her husband owned and operated 2 franchised retail locations in South Western Ontario for over 8 years. Prior to that, she worked with a large Bell Mobility Dealer in South Western Ontario that operated multiple locations where she held various positions including Controller.
Cathy obtained her Certified Risk Manager designation from University of Alberta in 2012 and she also holds a Business Administration Diploma from the Toronto School of Business.
She lives in Leduc with her husband and children and close by is the love of her life, her grandson.

Jeff Dumont – Secretary & Treasurer 

Jeff is a Chartered Accountant. with over 20 years of auditing experience from working with KPMG and the Office of the Auditor General of Alberta. Jeff has been appointed as NAIT’s associate vice president, finance and corporate services, his portfolio includes a number of Government Ministries and board-governed Government Agencies. Jeff recently completed the Directors Education Program of the Institute of Corporate Directors.Jeff enjoys sports in his off time.

Carol Moen – Director
Carol Moen is the past Registrar for the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and carried responsibility for APEGA’s regulatory policy and associated processes over her 3+ year tenure in the role.  Carol directly influenced substantive progress on the efficiency and effectiveness of all of APEGA’s regulatory portfolios and led the development of recommendations on the needed modernization of APEGA’s enabling legislation.
Her past experience also includes 26 years at DOW Chemical where she held a variety of leadership positions including Associate Director, Responsible Care and Regulatory Affairs and Production Leader, Energy Systems and Environmental Operations. Through Carol’s varied roles she acquired diverse knowledge in the integrated manufacture of petrochemicals and the importance of results in a globally competitive manufacturing environment.
As a leader, Carol consistently focused on addressing social license to operate, managing environmental footprint or impact and the need to generate business success. Through her varied experiences, Carol had direct responsibility and/or influence over large manufacturing facilities as well as the significant supporting organizations and finances that enable them.

Eileen Passmore – Director
Eileen Passmore grew up in Kelowna, B.C., graduated from the University of British Columbia, and moved to Alberta to work with Alberta Agriculture.  Eileen’s lifelong interest in adult and post-secondary education led to a Master’s degree in Adult Education from the University of Alberta, and management positions in public and private post-secondary institutions and government.   She joined the Excel board in 2016, and is pleased to participate in this vibrant organization that is committed to enabling everyone to develop their full potential.   Eileen is married, and an active volunteer with Suit Yourself, the Edmonton Horticulture Society, and Highlands United Church.

Ihor Pecuh – Director
Ihor was raised in Edmonton and finished his BSc in Pharmacy.  He has since enjoyed a diverse and exciting career; including community & hospital pharmacy, corporate management & at a primary care network.  In his spare time, Ihor enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters camping, swimming and swinging in his hammock.

Garry Rentz – Director
Garry Rentz joined Excel in 2002. He is a native of Edmonton and is self-employed. His interest in private schools and adult education, as well as experience in the field of disabilities has brought depth to the organization. “I chose to serve based on my history in the field and I see rapid growth in the field of specialized care.” Garry Rentz is married and has four children.
