We help people with mental, physical and developmental disabilities


Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) and Alberta Health Services (AHS) provide staffing support for seniors. There is an expectation that clients will pay Room & Board and personal expenses. Both require a “Client Needs Assessment” to determine individual staff funding requirements.

Seniors are referred to Excel by Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) or by PDD client support is available in Calgary and Edmonton in the form of Residential Care, Supported Independent Living, and Creative Supports. Specific criteria is used to determine client need for further information contact your PDD Regional Office.

PDD Residential Care

Excel operates 21 PDD community living residences, 15 in Edmonton and 6 in Calgary.  Personal care services are provided based on individual client service plans.  Our residences are managed by Residential Care Coordinators, overseen by a Program Manager.  Within each residence, staff assist clients with meals, medications, transportation, and access to community services such as the library, swimming pools.  In addition staff deliver life skills training on health, hygiene, communication and behavioural issues.

If your family member does not fit the PDD criteria then they may fit criteria for Alberta Health Services.

Alberta Health Services (AHS)

AHS refers clients to Excel with medical issues such as Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Schizophrenia or Brain Injury.  AHS will require a Client Needs Assessment and for more information contact the Community Care Access Central Intake to request an assessment. Alberta Health Services Residential Care

Excel operates 17 community based Personal and Special Care Homes in Edmonton that provide client support.  All clients have an Alberta Health Services care plan that is augmented by Person Centered Planning to help clients.

AHS Designated Assisted Living (DAL)

Excel has two DAL facilities, Grand Manor with 118 suites for residents and Balwin Villa with 105 suites for residents.

Day Options

We also offer a day program exclusively for Seniors 55+. This program is called the Clubhouse 55.
